New faces in, two top batsmen/captains out for Windies & Irish tour

No AB de Villiers and no Faf du Plessis (photo by GB Jordaan) in either of the Proteas three teams to take part in the three forms of international cricket to tour West Indies (tests and T20) and Ireland (ODI’s).

It seems that this is the final answer from De Villiers, who shone in recently curtailed IPL tournament

The Proteas squads to tour the West Indies and Ireland from next month include a number of new faces in Prenelan Subrayen, Lizaad Williams, Kyle Verreynne, Keegan Petersen, Sarel Erwee and Marco Jansen.

South Africa’s tour to the Windies was confirmed on Friday and will included two Tests in St Lucia and five T20’s in Grenada. The tour begins on 10 June and lasts to 3 July.

The tour replaces last year’s cancelled Proteas tour to the West Indies due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 19-man Test squad will be captained by Dean Elgar, succeeding Quinton de Kock, who led the team after Faf du Plessis’ retirement last year. Du Plessis too isn’t included in the squads but remains available for limited-overs selection and excelled for the Chennai Super Kings in this year’s IPL.

▲ Temba Bavuma will captain the 19-string T20 squad in West Indies which includes 11 players from the test squad.

▲ Bavuma will also lead the 20-man limited-overs squad that will tour Ireland for the first time in South Africa’s history. The T20 squad plus Keshav Maharaj will make this tour
