No wonder Blue Bulls Rugby Union president Willem Strauss is so obviously excited about the arrival of Springbok and Ulster loose forward Marcell Coetzee in Pretoria later this year!
“I can’t wait,” Strauss tweeted on Thursday after the news that Coetzee has, in addition to other awards, also been voted the Players' Player of the 2020/21 PRO14 season. This latest accolade is an indication of the esteem in which the Bok loose forward is held
xperience in the PRO14 and the knowledge of the varying conditions of the competitors’ home grounds, will be worth his weight in gold with the Bulls entry into the new expanded PRO16 later this year.
The competition will hopefully be played in all five the member countries: Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa and Wales
Coetzee has delivered stellar performances for Ulster throughout the Guinness PRO14 campaign by sharing the top try-scorer title (9), ranking first for offloads (20) while also ranking in the top five for successful carries (67) and claiming 95% success in his 105 tackles.
He has after his outstanding performances this season also been included in the season’s PRO14 Dream Team with World Cup winning Bok Damian de Allende. (Also see the two articles SA players rewarded for their outstanding season and Marcell’s hamstring injury a setback for Bulls plans.)
