Swys makes eight changes to losing Lions for Brumbies in Canberra

Lions coach Swys de Bruin has made eight changes, including a positional switch, to the Lions team that was outplayed by the Sharks last weekend for the match against the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday (kick-off 11:45).

The changes in the starting side are Springbok wing Ruan Combrinck who comes in place of Tyrone Green, Franco Naude who takes over from Aphiwe Dyanti at centre who in turn moves to the wing in place of Courtnall Skosan, Nic Groom who replaces Ross Cronje at scrumhalf at the back. The forwards’ changes are Hacjivah Dayimani (No 8) and Stephan Lewies as (No 7) in place of Ruan Vermaak and Marnus Schoeman respectively, and two new props in Johannes Jonker and Nathan McBeth with Carlu Sadi and Sti Sithole now on the bench.

It is a very experienced team, with Lions Mapoe (photo GB Jordaan) making his 100th appearance for the Lions in Super Rugby.

Mapoe, who has 116 Super Rugby caps in total having played for two other franchises in his career (Free State & Bulls), has scored 32 Super Rugby tries in total.

Seven players in the starting side have 60 or more Super Rugby more caps and more The most experienced player in the side is Elton Jantjies who has racked up an impressive 126 Super Rugby caps (adding his 13 Super matches for the Stormers), since joining the franchise in 2011.

This followed by Andries Coetzee (86), Nic Groom (70), Stephan Lewies (69), Ruan Combrinck (68) and Marx (61) while Ross Cronje adds 81 caps from the bench.
