There are four Springbok captains currently playing in the Super Rugby competition, and all have been in the limelight in recent weeks.
Warren Whiteley, who has just returned from injury after weeks on the sidelines, cried off just before the Lions match against Crusaders on Friday; Pieter-Steph du Toit was injured in the Stormers tough win against the Bulls while a third, Eben Etzebeth, made his comeback for the Cape side in this clash.
A fourth, the incumbent Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, is being rested according to the Springbok protocols.
Du Toit who was Bok captain in last year’s test against Wales in Washington, is out of the one-match tour to Argentina, where the Stormers play the Jaguares on Saturday night. Du Toit’s shoulder injury does not seem as serious as initially feared.
Kolisi was joined on the sidelines by tighthead prop Frans Malherbe, who is also being rested, and flanker Ernst van Rhyn, who has an elbow injury.
♦ There is the good news for Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus that No 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe has recovered from injury. He has been included in the Stormers 25-man squad with Jaco Coetzee also fit to play after being injured on the Stormers recent Australasian tour.
