Injured Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, who has been training for some time but was not risked for selection, will play his first match since 24 May when he injured his knee in the Super Rugby match against the Highlanders.
His match against the Pumas at Newlands on Friday will be his 30th in the Currie Cup competition since he made his debut in 2014.
Kolisi’s return is timely indeed. It he comes through the match unscathed he will undoubtedly have a run with the Springboks against the Pumas in at Loftus next Saturday. It will be his only international outing before the warm-up against Japan who will play the Boks at home shortly before the World Cup.
The Springbok captain’s availability allows JD Schickerling to return to lock and Salmaan Moerat drops down to the bench.
Justin Philips is back at scrumhalf, Wilco Louw starts at tighthead and Sergeal Petersen makes his first start of the season on the wing.
