The Blitzboks, with a sharper, overall improved effort after their disappointing display last weekend, outscored the Argentinian side by eight tries to two in their first match in the Sydney tournament of the World Sevens Series to set down a marker for the tournament.
The score was 52-14, with Angelo Davids running in three tries.
Played in temperatures well into the forties, South Africa’s passing were slick, their tackling more committed and their finishing good. There discipline at the breakdown and their commitment in this facet also impressed.
The Blitzboks real test will be at 09:30 Saturday morning when they play France, losing finalists last week in Hamilton, in a match that should decide their pool and secure a place in the semi-finals for the winner.
Other scores were:
USA 32 Scotland 14; Australia 33 Japan 7
South Africa 52 Argentina 14; France 24 Samoa 17
Canada 28 Ireland 19; England 47 Spain 0
