Fiji, winners of the last four and five out of the last six titles in Hong Kong and with 27 consecutive wins behind them in this tournament, have again reached the play-offs after wining their Pool C clash with the All Blacks.
The score was 24-5 with the outplayed All Blacks only getting on the board right at the end.
In Pool B Argentina lost their final match against France (14-26 ) who remained unbeaten in the pool round. Argentina will have the difficult task of breaking Fiji’s unbeaten run. France will face the All Blacks, no easy challenge in itself.
In the other quarter-finals the Blitzboks play the United States, leader on the series standings after six tournaments. They lost two of their three matches after losing to lowly Wales and then England. Wales chance to make the play-offs was halted by Spain, who won their seventh successive match against Wales – quite extraordinary if it is considered that they properly beaten by England and the USA.
The Blitzboks, like England, Fiji and France, advanced to the quarters unbeaten from their pool but with the smallest points difference of the four. This can be attributed mainly to their slow starts in every match.
