There was another loss for Western Province and Stormers supporters to ponder when WP were outplayed by Griquas in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge semi-finals at the KwaNyamazane Stadium outside Nelspruit on Sunday.
It was the second loss in as many matches for WP after Boland beat them in the last round robin round of the competition last week.
The Griquas win and the subsequent 57-32 victory of Pumas over Boland means that defending SuperSport Rugby Challenge champions Pumas and Griquas will meet in a replay of last year’s final that will be at the Saldanha Sports Ground next Sunday.
♦ The Pumas proved too slick and powerful for Boland, according to the media report issued by SA Rugby Communications. The home side scored seven well-worked tries to two by the visitors, who could not get going all afternoon.
Griquas also outplayed Western Province with relative ease to reach their third consecutive SuperSport Rugby Challenge final. They had too much firepower in their semifinal, also scoring seven tries to two in a well-deserved win over the Cape side.
♦ The final will not only introduce a new Festival venue next Sunday, but could also deliver a new champion, should Griquas overcome the defending champions Pumas.
The two sides clashed earlier during pool play in the tournament, with the Pumas winning 38-27 in Nelspruit.
