Neil Powell’s charges won South Africa’s seventh title in the Dubai tournament of the World Rugby Sevens Series when they outplayed New Zealand in Saturday’s final, winning 15-0 after dominating possession and pressurising the All Blacks into mistakes.
The Blitzboks came from 0-14 down to beat England on Friday and thereby went through as top side in Pool D to set up a quarterfinal against Argentina on Saturday, kick-off 09:58.
Satisfactory for a first outing, but not good enough to go all the way. In fact, it was a little nerve-wracking as the Blitzboks negotiated their first match of the 2019/20 World Rugby Sevens series successfully.
Junior Springbok coach Chean Roux was pleased with the outcomes achieved as the SA Under-19 team wrapped up their two-match tour to Georgia with a 40-33 victory against the hosts at the Shevardeni Rugby Stadium in Tbilisi on Thursday.
The SA Rugby Sevens Academy squad started off strongly at the Dubai Sevens International Invitational tournament at The Sevens Stadium on Thursday, easily winning both their matches.
