No side in the South Africa conference has impressed enough in the first ten rounds of the 2019 Super Rugby competition to back them as possible championship material going forward.
The Bulls, leader on the five-team SA log, have shown glimpses of class. So have the Sharks and the Jaguares, who are being mentioned as favourites to top the SA Conference.
However, all three these teams have been inconsistent, none more so than the Sharks who trounced the Lions 42-5 at Ellis Park before getting hammered home by the Jaguares the following week and then losing for the first time in 15 years at home to the Reds on Saturday.
As has become near-custom, defending champions Crusaders are top of the combined log, a comfortable ten points clear of second-placed Rebels who have won only five of their nine matches.
The Bulls are currently third, a point behind the Rebels but with a match in hand.
♦ In the SA Conference, leaders Bulls are a mere four points ahead of the last-placed Stormers (10th on the combined log) in the closely contested group. The Bulls and Jaguares have both played eight matches, the other teams nine.
